Description

After ISO 9001:2000, in ISO 9001:2015 Major changes are expected. It is really the first major revision since ISO 9001:2000, which essentially consolidated three previous standards including ISO 9001, ISO 9002 and ISO 9003.

ISO standard is getting revised / review  at almost five years  to establish if a revision is required to keep it current and relevant for the marketplace. The future ISO 9001:2015 will respond to the latest trends and be compatible with other management systems such as ISO 14001.

How ever your ISO 9001:2008 standard can be valid and continued till September 2018. while you can also change you ISO 9001:20008 to ISO 9001:2015 during your Surveillance audit.

There is some value in understanding the new concept of “documented information” which replaces procedures, work instructions and records. Read the standard first and then go to Annex A of the standard to seek guidance and understanding of the meaning “maintaining documented information” and “retaining documented information”.

Major change to ISO 9001 is the word “risk” which is written throughout the new standard. It is important for organizations to understand the limits or boundaries where risk should be established and included in the QMS. Between the definition in Section 3.09 and Section 6.1 (draft) risk is defined as it pertains to “product conformity and customer satisfaction”. In some cases, organizations are currently reviewing these issues but not labeling them as risk. Organizations may want to actually formalize their existing process and include it in the QMS prior to the release of ISO 9001:2015.

There is an increased a requirement for senior management to take a greater active involvement in the quality management system.

There are now just general requirements for documentation, with no reference to documented quality manual, documented procedures or to quality records. The Committee Draft refers to “Documented Information.”

“Purchasing” and “outsourcing” are replaced by “external provision of goods and services”

Use of terms “goods & services” rather than “product” and the word “continual” dropped from “continual improvement.”
